NISSAN REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY LEADERSHIP

Nissan announces plans to participate in NHTSA?s proposed Vehicle-CRS Fit Program

Today, Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) announced its planned participation in the Vehicle-CRS Fit Program, a future initiative proposed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that is aimed at helping consumers choose child restraint systems that properly fit their vehicles. While details around the voluntary NHTSA program are not finalized, the issue of child restraint safety is already a priority at Nissan, which has led the industry through its Snug Kids™ program.

To address the need for increased compatibility between vehicles and child restraint systems, NHTSA recently announced that it would establish a new consumer information program to disseminate a list of child restraints that vehicle manufacturers suggest fit properly in their individual vehicles on Safercar.gov. Nissan?s Snug Kids™, an industry-first program established in 2002, currently publishes similar information on the Nissan and Infiniti websites.

?Nissan is committed to passenger safety ? including the safety of children, our most precious cargo,? said Bob Yakushi, director of product safety, Nissan North America. ?We began Snug Kids™ to aid caretakers in the purchase and installation of child restraint systems, and fully support NHTSA?s direction.?

Nissan introduced Snug Kids™ after learning that some customers were having difficulty determining which child safety seat fits properly in their vehicles. Nissan safety engineers certified as Child Passenger Safety Technicians have spent thousands of hours evaluating hundreds of child restraints by installing them in all the rear seats of current Nissan and Infiniti vehicles. The result is the Snug Kids™ Child Safety Seat Fit Guide, which helps parents confidently select a child restraint that fits their vehicle while also providing valuable tips on the proper fit of a child restraint.

More information about Snug Kids™ is available at http://www.nissanusa.com/snugkids and http://www.infinitiusa.com/ownership/snug-kids.html.

Nissan Progresses Construction of Electric Vehicle Battery Plant in Tennessee

- Smyrna facility to be one of the largest electric vehicle battery plants in the U.S. -

Construction is progressing on Nissan?s manufacturing facility in Smyrna, Tenn., which will produce lithium-ion batteries to power the Nissan LEAF zero-emission vehicle. The all-electric Nissan LEAF will be produced at Nissan?s vehicle assembly facility in Smyrna beginning in late 2012.

The foundation is laid, structure being erected and roof being installed on the vehicle battery manufacturing plant, which will be one of the largest in the country at full capacity of 1.3 million square feet. The plant will be capable of producing 200,000 advanced-technology batteries annually. It is located adjacent to Nissan?s vehicle assembly plant, which is being retooled to accommodate production of Nissan LEAF and will be capable of producing 150,000 electric cars annually. Combined, Nissan LEAF and battery production will create up to 1,300 U.S. manufacturing jobs when the plants are operating at full capacity.

?Nissan is making significant strides to be one of the largest producers of electric vehicles and batteries in the United States,? said Carlos Tavares, Chairman, Nissan Americas. ?We applaud President Obama?s goal of bringing 1 million electric vehicles to U.S. roads by 2015 and look forward to doing our part to ensure that many of those vehicles, and the batteries that power them, are built in the United States.?

Combined, the construction of the battery plant and modification of the Smyrna manufacturing facility represent an investment of up to $1.7 billion. The project initially is being supported by a U.S. Department of Energy loan for 80 percent of that investment, up to $1.4 billion.

The loan was issued as part of the Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing Loan Program, a $25 billion program authorized by Congress as part of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. The program is designed to accelerate the development of vehicles and technologies that increase U.S. energy independence, create cleaner means of transportation and stimulate the American economy.

Sales of the Nissan LEAF ? the world?s first all-electric, zero-emission vehicle available for the mass market ? began in select markets in the United States in December 2010. It will be available nationwide in 2012, when production expands to the Tennessee facility. The Nissan LEAF initially is being produced in Oppama, Japan, and will be equipped with lithium-ion batteries being produced in Zama, Japan. The Renault-Nissan Alliance also will produce lithium-ion batteries in Cacia, Portugal, and Sunderland, UK, as well as in Renault?s Flins plant in France.

100% ELECTRIC NISSAN LEAF PICKS UP EUROPEAN CAR OF THE YEAR 2011 TROPHY

The trophy recognizing the revolutionary Nissan LEAF as Europe's Car of The Year 2011 was handed over to Nissan Motor Co.'s President and CEO Carlos Ghosn in a special ceremony at the Pavillion Gabriel in Paris.

To win the award, the 58 CoTY members - leading motoring journalists from 23 European countries - placed Nissan LEAF ahead of six conventional new cars on the shortlist. It is the first time in CoTY's 48-year history that the annual award has been won by an electric vehicle.

"I am convinced that we will see other electric cars named Car of the Year in the future. But when we do, we must always remember that only one can be the first. And that is why Nissan LEAF Car of the Year 2011 is - and will remain - so very special," said Håkan Matson, president of the CoTY jury, speaking at the ceremony.

"It is a great honor for Nissan LEAF to be recognized as the European Car of the Year - the first all-electric car to receive this distinction. Like previous Car of the Year winners, Nissan LEAF is an appealing, competitive car, with no compromise on style, features, safety, performance or handling. Yet it stands apart as an innovative car that reflects a clear vision of the future of transportation - a vision of sustainable mobility," said Ghosn after receiving the trophy.

Nissan LEAF is powered by an in-house developed compact electric motor and inverter in the front of the car driving the front wheels. The AC motor develops 80 kW of power and 280 Nm of torque, enough for a maximum speed of 145 km/h (90 mph). The electric motor is powered by an advanced laminated lithium-ion battery with a power output of more than 90 kW. Developed by the Automotive Energy Supply Corporation (AESC), a joint venture between Nissan and electronics giant NEC Corp., the breakthrough battery has the capacity to store twice as much energy as the previous generation battery.

The zero-emission car is fully equipped with features such as regenerating braking, air conditioning, satellite navigation and a parking camera. Innovative smart phone connectivity will allow an owner to heat or cool the interior of the car remotely via a mobile phone. The single option is a solar panel mounted in the rear spoiler.

Pre-orders for Nissan LEAF have reached more than 27,000 units globally. The zero-emission car is currently built in Japan, but will also be manufactured in the United States and United Kingdom when new manufacturing facilities there open in late 2012 and early 2013 respectively. Deliveries to individual customers in Japan and the US began in December. In Europe, deliveries will start shortly to Portugal, the Republic of Ireland, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands followed by more markets later in the year.

The Renault-Nissan Alliance aims to be a global leader in zero-emission mobility and is taking a comprehensive approach encompassing both the product and the infrastructure required to support the mass marketing of electric vehicles. To date, the Alliance has entered into more than 90 partnerships with governments, municipal authorities and companies worldwide to prepare the markets and infrastructure for the successful adoption of electric vehicles.

* The current version of the coveted marble trophy, introduced in 2004, was created by Emmanuel Zurini, a French artist famous for his automotive sculptures. Zurini was a leading Grand Prix photographer in the 1960s before turning to sculpture in 1975. It is the third specially created trophy in the history of the Award.

Nissan has won the CoTY award before. In 1993, the Micra became the first Japanese-badged car to win the accolade and started Europe's love affair with the little car that continues today with the recent launch of the latest generation Micra in late 2010.

NISSAN DONATES $35,000 TO HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF GREATER MIAMI

- Funding Provides Materials for Liberty City Build Sites -

Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) announced today that it is donating $35,000 worth of building materials to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami. The materials, which will be used to build affordable homes for low income families, were delivered to the Habitat warehouse in the new 2012 Nissan NV commercial van as part of the vehicle?s national media preview.

Scheduled to launch in spring 2011, the Nissan NV is available in three models, NV1500, NV2500 HD and NV3500 HD, and in two roof configurations ? Standard Roof and High Roof. The NV is the first commercial van to offer rugged body-on-frame construction combined with a High Roof, offering users the ability to walk, stand and work in the cargo area. It is assembled by Nissan Manufacturing in Canton, MS.

?Nissan is helping to put low income families in decent, affordable homes,? said Habitat CEO Mario Artecona. ?More than that, Nissan is contributing toward the revitalization of an entire community.?

Nissan?s in-kind donations will be used to construct homes in Liberty City, one of Miami?s most blighted urban areas, under the non-profit?s Liberty City Shine campaign. Miami Habitat is currently working with partners like Nissan to build and refurbish more than 250 homes over three years in this once-thriving neighborhood.

?Nissan values our relationship with Habitat for Humanity,? said David Reuter, vice-president, Corporate Communications, Nissan Americas. ?We are proud to partner with them to help revitalize Liberty City and we?re proud that the new Nissan NV2500 can demonstrate its outstanding capabilities.?

Nissan's contribution is in addition to the $1 million annual donation to Habitat for Humanity International, a partnership with Habitat begun five years ago following the devastation of the 2005 hurricane season. Nissan?s disaster-relief efforts resulted in the donation of 50 Titan pick-up trucks, with a value totaling more than $1 million, to support rebuilding efforts in the Gulf Coast region.

To date, Nissan has provided over $5 million in grant money and in-kind donations to Habitat for Humanity, and over 5,000 Nissan team members have volunteered in more than 25 home builds across the United States.

- New City Nissan delivers all-electric zero-emission car -

Today, Nissan North America Inc. (NNA) brought sustainable mobility to Hawaii with the arrival of the state?s first all-electric Nissan LEAF. Bill Markevitch took delivery of his Nissan LEAF SL today at New City Nissan of Honolulu. This groundbreaking moment follows deliveries in the launch states of California, Arizona, Oregon, Washington, Tennessee and Texas.

Markevitch is a development executive for Hawaii Pacific Health who focuses on fundraising for Kapiolani Media Center, Hawaii?s Children?s Miracle Network Hospital. The Honolulu resident plans to use photovoltaic panels installed on his home to have the sun power his car.

This Nissan LEAF delivery signifies the dawn of a movement that brings sustainable mobility to within our grasp.?

In August 2010, Nissan announced that it had entered into an agreement with the State of Hawaii to advance zero-emission mobility. This partnership is helping pave the way for the introduction of the Nissan LEAF throughout Hawaii.

?We are excited about Nissan bringing the first Nissan LEAF electric vehicle to Hawaii," said Estrella Seese, acting energy program administrator of the State of Hawaii Energy Office. "The introduction of the Nissan LEAF will support our state's effort to move towards a clean energy future and meet our 70 percent energy goal by 2030."

The delivery is Nissan?s first in Hawaii, completing a series of ?first? deliveries in each of its primary launch markets, which began in December 2010. Nissan is on track for a nationwide launch of the Nissan LEAF by 2012, with more states taking deliveries later this year. In order to fulfill interest and meet demand in initial launch markets, Nissan plans to reopen reservations in the first half of 2011 as well as shift timing of additional markets until the second half of 2011.

?Nissan has always believed in creating a partnership between the company and the dedicated teams who compete in our vehicles? said Ron Stukenberg, Senior Manager, Nissan Motorsports. ?We will be expanding our support with several professional teams as well as increasing our contingency program for grassroots teams.?

Here are some of the series Nissan will support this season:

- PRO 2WD Truck Class ? Driver/Owner Chad Hord will pilot the Boss Snowplow/AMSOIL Nissan Titan after placing 4th in points last year.
- PRO LIGHT 2WD Truck Class ? Driver/Owner Casey Currie will defend his 2010 PRO LIGHT 2WD Championship in the Monster Energy Nissan Frontier.
World Challenge
- GT Class ? Brass Monkey Racing will return with a 2-car Nissan GT-R team. Tony Rivera and Steve Ott will be driving these iconic race cars in the emerging World Challenge Championship Series.
American Le Mans Series
- LMP2 Class ? Signature Racing (based in France) intends to campaign a Nissan powered LMP2 entry in the ILMC (International Le Mans Championship) and the Le Mans 24 Hour race. The ILMC includes 2 races in the U.S. ? The 12 Hours of Sebring and Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.
Grassroots Amateur Racing
- Nissan is in the process of finalizing and expanding its support of grassroots racing including: SCCA Club Racing, NASA, Formula Drift, Grand-Am Continental Tire Series and the Lucas Oil Off-Road Series.
?We look forward to competitive success in all Motorsports venues where Nissan products are involved.? said Stukenberg. ?From the Trans Am 510s in the 1970s to the fire-breathing IMSA GTP and GTS cars in the 1980?s and 90s and off-road racing trucks 2000s, Nissan has a long history of winning professional championships in the U.S. In grassroots racing Nissan has a record total of 89 SCCA Runoffs National Championships, well ahead of every other manufacturer, and we?re looking to add more championships all the time.?
